The Categories:

Any savoury ingredient used by cafés or available for use in a café e.g. cooking sauce, chutney, vinegar, sachets
 
Any sweet ingredient used by cafés or available for use in a café e.g. jams, syrups, marshmallows, toppings
 
Any snack that is sold in a packet that has a savoury flavour e.g. crisps, savoury nuts, savoury popcorn
 

Any snack that is sold in a packet that has a sweet flavour e.g. sweet popcorn, dried fruit, boiled sweets

Any baked bread product used in a foodservice outlet, e.g. bread rolls, sandwich loaves, garlic bread, focaccia, baguettes
 
Any baked cakes served in a foodservice outlet, e.g. victoria sponge, carrot cake, muffins, loaf cakes
 
Breakfast bakery products served within a foodservice outlet, eg. croissants, english muffins, crumpets
 
Any biscuit item which has a savoury flavour e.g. biscuits for cheese, crackers, oatcakes
 
Any biscuit item which has a sweet flavour e.g. cookies, shortbread, sweet biscuits
 
Any chocolate product or sweets e.g. chocolate bars, fudge, packets of sweets
 
Any item created to be used and / or sold at Christmas e.g. syrups, mince pies, drinks, desserts
 
Any cold beverage sold to serve within a foodservice outlet. This can be bought pre-made or ready-to-mix, e.g. fruit juices, cordials, smoothies, fizzy drinks, waters
 
Products such as seasonings, salts, cake mixes, rubs and spice mixes (Please ensure you are very clear how you would like these to be prepared).
 
Any chilled dairy product used within a foodservice outlet, e.g. butters, spreads, yoghurts, cheese
 
Products that are typically sold in a delicatessen, for use within foodservice outlets, e.g. olives, sundried tomatoes, parma ham
 
Any sweet pudding or dessert e.g. mousses, pies, roulades, cheesecakes
 
Any filleted or whole fish or shellfish product used within a foodservice outlet, e.g. salmon fillets, whole seabass, king prawns, mussels, crab
 
Any prepared or unprepared fresh fruit, vegetable or salad items for use within foodservice outlets, e.g. whole fruits, pre-cut fruit bags, pre-cut vegetables, stir-fry kits, whole vegetables
 
The Free From categories are open to all allergen free products; such as gluten free, egg free, lactose free, dairy free, nut free, soya free or sugar free.
 
Savoury flavoured products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. snacks, cereals, sandwiches
 
Sweet flavoured products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. cakes, biscuits, tarts, jams
 
Savoury products that are stored frozen until use e.g. pies, quiches, burgers, chips, vegetables
 
Sweet products that are stored frozen and and sold to serve within foodservice outlets, e.g. ice creams, desserts, pastry
 
Hot drinks sold in a café e.g. teas, coffee, instant coffee, milk drinks. The Kitchen Team will have a coffee grinder, cafetiere, nespresso machine and frother available.  N.B. Depending on the number of entries, coffee may be separated out
 
Specialist Coffee either needs to be delivered to the DIT on the morning of judging if specialist equipment required (please contact beth.treleaven@irishqualityfoodawards.com), or can be prepared by our home economist team according to your detailed instructions.
 
Any meat product sold to serve within a foodservice outlet.
 
Any product or ready meal that is free from meat and sold to serve within a foodservice outlet, e.g. vegetable curries, nut cutlets, bean burgers
 
Products comprising the main ‘ready to cook’ component of a meal sold for consumption within foodservice outlets. The outlet with then add a garnish or side dish themselves e.g. marinated / stuffed meat portions, en croute dishes, ribs, stuffed vegetables
 
Food created to be served at a celebration or party either sweet or savoury or as a component of a buffet within a foodservice outlet. Can be ambient, chilled or frozen, e.g. mini pizzas, wedges, canapes, mini cakes
 
Any pizza, pies or pasties served hot or cold within a foodservice outlet, e.g. steak and onion pie, cornish pasty, pepperoni pizza
 
Pasta can be fresh or dried, with or without filling. Rice and grains e.g. couscous and pearl barley, can be of any variety or flavouring.
 
Pre-prepared, ready to cook and eat as a whole meal, sold to serve within a foodservice outlet, e.g. roast dinners, filled potatoes, casseroles, stews
 

Any soup, ambient or chilled, sold to serve in a foodservice outlet.

 

Cafe Products

 

Products either pre-made or made-to-order at foodservice outlets, that are ready to buy and eat on the move e.g. bagels, sandwiches, baguettes, paninis, snack bars

A unique packaging concept that enhances a 'Grab & Go' foodservice product or adds value, e.g. packaging for hot grab & go products, packaging that separates various elements of a product, innovative cup design

 

Innovation Awards

Best New Casual Dining Product

This award is designed to recognise and reward excellence in back of house and front of house offerings that take a brand up and beyond the typical casual dining offers available. Entrants should focus on innovation as a point of difference for this category. Is it the food or its presentation that drives the product to stand alone from its competition.

 

Best New Educational Product

This award is designed to recognise and reward excellence in products that are created to be consumed within a school or on campus environment or with an educational element. Entrants should focus on what they can offer the student as a point of difference. Is it the style of food, the product design etc.

 

Best New Breakfast Product

This award is designed to recognise and reward excellence in new breakfast products, designed to be served within foodservice outlets. For example, a breakfast product that appeals to a commuter in a rush, an easy breakfast for the busy mum, or something new and innovative that appeals to the new millennial.

 

Best Overall New Launch

This award is designed to recognise and reward excellence and innovation within new products launched specifically to the foodservice sector.  

Café of the Year Awards

 
For the above four categories which are FREE TO ENTER, companies are asked to support their nominations by providing documentation of their achievements across key criteria including:
